Headway Basingstoke is an independent charity supporting adults living with the effects of traumatic or acquired brain injury.
We provide a structured and supportive rehabilitation environment where individuals can rebuild confidence, develop independence, and improve their quality of life.
Every person’s experience of brain injury is different, and recovery and adjustment take time. We support individuals to better understand the effects of their injury and develop practical ways to manage everyday challenges.
We also offer information and guidance to families and carers supporting someone after a brain injury.
We support adults aged 18 and over who are living with the effects of:
Traumatic brain injury (for example following a fall, road traffic accident, or assault)
Acquired brain injury (including stroke, tumour, infection, hypoxia, or other medical causes)
Our programmes are designed to help individuals understand the effects of brain injury and develop practical strategies to manage everyday challenges.
Support is delivered in a welcoming environment through a combination of one-to-one sessions and small group programmes. Some individuals begin with individual support before progressing into group-based activities, depending on their needs and readiness.
Our work focuses on common challenges following brain injury, including:
Memory and concentration difficulties
Fatigue
Changes in mood and confidence
Reduced independence in daily life
All programmes are developed to support rehabilitation and are overseen by our Clinical Lead.
Following a referral, each individual is assessed to determine whether Headway Basingstoke is appropriate at that stage of recovery.
Many clients begin with our “Brain Injury & Me” programme, which supports individuals to:
Understand the effects of their brain injury
Adjust to the changes it may have caused
Begin setting realistic goals for recovery
Clients may then progress through further structured programmes depending on their needs. These can include support with:
Managing fatigue
Coping with stress and anxiety
Rebuilding confidence and independence
We offer a range of structured, activity-based programmes that support rehabilitation in a practical and engaging way. These may include:
Horticulture
Cooking
Creative activities
Music-based sessions
We also provide reablement-focused activities, social opportunities, and community outings to support confidence, independence, and participation in everyday life.
We aim to create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all clients. Engagement in activities and programmes plays an important role in rehabilitation, and we encourage individuals to participate at a pace that feels right for them.
