Volunteering

Volunteering with us makes a real difference to people recovering from brain injury. Our team of dedicated volunteers make our centre a really inspiring environment.

Just a little of your time can make a big difference. At the same time, you’ll get to have fun, meet new friends and gain valuable experience.

Our volunteers come from many different backgrounds. If you’re interested in volunteering, we’d love to hear from you. Email us and we will help you find the right opportunity to suit your interests and experience. For example, administration, befriending, art therapy or fundraising.

Not every charity has a Gary

Gary is one of Headway Basingstoke’s hugely valued volunteers, who helps us with our website. Here’s what he has to say about it: “I don’t actually see it as volunteering. I help out with the website because I have the skills and they needed help. One of my friends works at Headway, that’s how I got involved. Having now seen what they do, I’m quite blown away by it to be honest. I just assumed all this stuff was dealt with by doctors. I never knew places like this existed. I hadn’t really thought about it. I guess most people don’t think about brain injury unless it directly affects them. Once the website’s up, it’ll be satisfying to know I’ve helped people with brain injuries by making the website clearer to use and also really helped the charity. I’ll be quite chuffed with that.” – Gary

Emily’s story

“Two things that I will always remember about Headway Basingstoke are the incredible team of dedicated people who do this amazing work and the chairs! Because the clients have brain injuries, client chairs in the office don’t have wheels. I wouldn’t have thought about that before I came and it’s just one of the things I have learned, which I really value. If anyone’s thinking about volunteering, just do it! It is such a rewarding experience.” – Emily

All our volunteers are given ‘hands on’ support, supervision and have the opportunity to develop their skills.
